Eilat has become a very popular destination for a vacation in a warmer and more pleasant climate. Eilat is situated in the northern end of the Bay of Eilat, its hot climate, tropical sea and breathtaking background of the granite mountains has made this city a magical place to visit.
The history of Eilat starts off in the days of King Solomon, who built a large fleet of ships which he sent to Ophir, through the Nabateans, the Romans, the Arabs, Crusaders all of whom ruled the Land of Israel.
The modern city of Eilat was founded in 1950 towards the end of the '60s the tourist industry started to develop in the city and today Eilat is a paradise for the tourist and traveler. The bay is one of the major attractions, because of wonderful beaches, developed water sports and one of the best diving spots in the world. In the south of the city is the Coral Reserve with its splendid tropical fish amongst the reefs. Visit the underwater observatory, the Marine Museum and the Dolphin Reef with its resident school of dolphins and dive with the dolphins. Sail in a glass bottom boat and observe all the beautiful coloured tropical fish.
The city has many restaurants, bars and nightclubs, colourful shops, and vibrant bazaars during the summer months. There are attractions for youngsters such as the amusement park. The marine is a wonderful place to watch the brilliant Eilat sunset and the boats return to dock after a day at sea.
